Help! What Tamahotchi Should I Buy? 4U or P?

Hello everyone!

This is my first post on this website! I need some help from you guys! ^_^

I want to buy a Tamagotchi either the 4U or the P but I don't know which to buy.

I have watched a few reviews on both the 4U and the P but I have very basic knowledge of these Tamagotchis so please give as much info as you can. I am still learning!

I heard that the Tamagotchi p needs chips that go on to the top of the device and if you don't have any, it gets super boring after a while. There are about 20$+ to get them online which I think is crazy and idk if I want to buy them but if you really get a lot out of them then I will consider it

I also heard that the 4U needs NFC to use and there is also an app (which I tried to find but idk what it is called or where to download it) - I have a Canadian Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and it has NFC but will it work? Please let me know if you can.

Another thing I heard is that you can get cards for you Tamagotchis but I don't know what they are for.

Again, I am really sorry that I don't know much about these. The last Tamagotchi I owned as the 2004 Tamagotchi connect so Tamagotchis have seriously changed over the years.

The IR Blaster on that model of phone you have only works for TVs and entertainment systems. You need the kind that can send file transfers, which is called IRDA.

Here's a list of devices that have the correct kind.

You can also go get an IRDA transmitter off Amazon. It's important to note that Windows10 doesn't support IRDA at ALL. I have no idea about Mac products.

Personally, I prefer the P's because there seem to be far more features built into the actual Tamagotchi as opposed to the 4U, which gives you less and requires you to download more. You can do a lot more with it right off the bat without ever worrying about if/when they discontinue app content someday. Also the Deco Pierces are SUPER fun and add a lot of really interesting content. If you want to patch your P's to be English you will still need something with IRDA, but that's all you'd need it for. Here's a link for the patches. (This site also has an English patch for 4U I think.) Some sellers on Ebay will patch it for you if you ask. I've found the menus are pretty easy to decipher and there are plenty of guides online for whatever you might need.

I actually like the P's better than the 4U. I got a phone that has irda for about 10$ on ebay. With the P's you can download virtual deco pierces and put them on your P's for no charge. I found the 4U more independent and a bit more of a pain in a different way. I have the hardest time keeping the 4U happy. Plus the P's has more characters built in while the 4U has very few.

You can also use it to download stuff on an iD L or iD if you decide to get another tamagotchi.
