What batteries for Mix?

I know that colour Tamas require AAA batteries, but I've been using the 1.2V rechargables on my 4U and now my Mix.

Is there any sort of specific batteries recommended for the Mix or any colour Tama? I'm hesitant on using the very cheap 1.5V unchargable batteries in case it damages the unit.

 
Manual recommends alkaline batteries. Sure, you can use those cheap batteries but as with any situation, you risk either damaging your device, playing with a really short battery life or both.

 
I've used the 1.5V batteries without any consequence, but the battery life seems to be much shorter.
