There is always talk of aliens invading Earth, but people don't even know the truth about the real first contact: Tamagotchi. Far, far from planet Earth, a Mame scientist managed to contact a scientist in Japan, Professor Banzo, to assist them in moving some of their population to Earth 1996. The story given by Professor Banzo wasn't taken seriously and the device made to house these alien refugees was treated as a toy. The Mame scientist and Banzo worked together to deactivate the shells that had poor Guardians. When approximately two thirds of the Tamagotchi shells stopped working people assumed they were cheaply made, but you know the truth. You are a Guardian.

There aren't many Guardians left, they grew up and stopped caring for Tamagotchi in order to take on jobs or to care for families of their own. You personally have never even met any adults who care for Tamagotchi, but you have contacts online. One of your contacts going by the screen name Professor Tamago had a theory: a Tamagotchi in a shell is a conscious electrical signal, electric signals control the human brain, what if a human consciousness could be directed into a shell? If that were possible that raises the question of whether or not it would be possible for a electrical signal human to travel to Tamagotchi Planet since Tamagotchi can return if they grow old or are neglected. It is a fascinating topic that you have been discussing with Professor Tamago, whose real name you had learned was Charlotte. You had found the topic so fascinating, in fact, that when she asked if you wanted to volunteer in her experiment you said that you could do it as soon as you finished raising the Tamagotchis you currently had. A week later two plane tickets arrived: one from your local airport to Detroit, and a second from Detroit to Nagoya, Japan. Japan! You had gawked at the tickets before scrambling to open skype on your computer. You had video chatted with Charlotte before and had assumed she was from Australia by her accent, but after calling her you confirmed that, yes, she was located in Japan because the number of Guardians there was much higher than anywhere else in the world. She also let you know that she had invited a girl from Michigan, Kahleeah, along as well and she would join you on the plane from Detroit to Japan.

Your flight wasn’t leaving for three weeks, plenty of time for you to finish raising the current generation of Tamagotchi and to request time off from your job. Kahleeah and you began texting and hit it off really well. You packed two suitcases, a small one full of clothes, then put the small one inside a slightly larger one. You were definitely bringing back souvenirs. In your carry on you packed your toothbrush and your breakable items that you didn’t want in the suitcase: laptop, camera, and a video game to play during the flight. Those three weeks passed before you knew it and you were taking an Uber to the airport.

The first plane was only an hour flight from your local airport to Detroit, Michigan. You busied yourself with the small screen embedded into the seatback in front of you. There was sudoku, tick-tack-toe, and checkers in the games section. It was enough to keep you busy for an hour, but you had a difficult time remembering you didn’t have to stop and check on a Tamagotchi every few minutes. Before you knew it people were streaming out of the plane single file and into a much bigger airport. You had a three hour layover, so you busied yourself with window shopping in souvenir stores that dotted the airport. Soon your phone chimed, signaling a new text. ‘I’m here!’ it read, ‘Want to meet at the Chick-fil-A? Look for the huge afro.’ You shoot back an affirmative and start heading towards the cafeteria, taking one of the conveyor belts to get there faster. You were both excited and nervous, this would be your first time meeting an internet friend in real life. Once you’ve speed walked to the cafeteria you spot Kahleeah, her self-description of ‘huge afro’ was very accurate. You take a deep breath to settle your nerves and shift your carry-on bag a bit. Here we go.
