Hi there everyone!

After getting back into Tamagotchi/Virtual Pet collecting I went and dug out my old collection again. Some, I will admit, are a bit worse for wear.

I’ve been trying to identify them and get names for the ones I am not sure on. I have managed with some research from both myself and other people (huge thanks in particular to Penguin-keeper on this! ) to identify some of my virtual pets. However, others I am still a bit stuck on- so! I decided that I would get some better photos of all my virtual friends today and ask if any of you could help me in putting a name to their shells.

Below is a group shot of all of my pets needing a name. I think I recognise some, but want to be 100% sure.

Below are what I and other people have identified already. At the top we have the Nano Kitty and Nano Puppy, with the Nano Talking Baby and Puppy. Below those, from left to right are:

Toy Story Virtual Explorer, Nekotcha, Orphan Kimiko and a Super-Sized Super Gyaoppi.

Below them is my Giga collection, featuring Small Soldiers, 101 Dalmatians, Bugs life and Star Wars: Rancor.

On a side note, from the collection that needs identifying, there is speculation that the brown brindle/tabby pawprint virtual pet may be a type of Gyaoppi. The dog-shaped shells at the bottom all run exactly the same and I think they may be somewhere along the ‘Micro-Dog’ line?

If anyone could name any of these I would be very, very grateful! I am more than happy to provide further photos if needed (providing I can get them to work, as not all of them have been tested  ).

Many thanks! :D

What a cool collection - I have a few of those, but your VPs are impressive - congratulations.

One of my first "go-to" sites when looking at odd pets or unknown pets is tamenagerie.com - a site run by Mothra: https://www.tamatalk.com/IB/user/12-mothra/

- one of TamaTalk's first members and a Senior TamaGuide.

Link to her own site here: https://www.tamenagerie.com/sitemap.html

(although I think you've probably taken the time to search through her site, there's always a chance you haven't yet come across it) :)

As I've said before, you have a truly marvellous virtual pet collection!

As you know, you have a super-sized Super Gyaoppi there. We've discussed this elsewhere on the site, but I think that it would be useful for me to also note here that its specific name is the "Big Cat 9 in 1". For the benefit of everyone who hasn't seen it, a picture of one in its packaging can be found here.

Anyway, onto the unidentified ones! :D

The little green dinosaur-like critter in the upper-left corner of the first photograph is a Virtual Dinosaur by Mani. One of these came up on eBay UK not too long ago (I know that this link will eventually go dead, but it's still live now, just in case anyone wants to see it).

My apologies for the size of this image - it's the one from the auction-listing, and I figured that it was worth preserving here at its full size, since this seems to be an otherwise-obscure virtual pet.

The one that looks like Nintendo's Yoshi hatching from an egg is listed on Tamenagerie here (I must second TamaMum's recommendation to go through what's there - you're very likely to find a lot of answers there), and was sold under numerous names - in the UK, the watch version was sold under the name of "My Virtual Pet Dinosaur", and I'm guessing that the keychain version also bore this name, though I never saw the keychain version offered here myself, back in the day. This virtual pet was known in Japan as "Ganbare!! Ryuuta-kun", and in the US as "DinoPet".

The white, egg-shaped one with the three dinosaurs depicted at the top is a "Mr. Dino".

There's a video about the one in the clear-blue shell with the animals printed all around it

The two that are labelled as "8-in-1 Mini Pets" are listed on Tamenagerie here, and the packaging for these also bore the alternate name of "8 in 1 Zoo Zone".

As I've said in another thread, the brown, stripy pawprint-shaped virtual pet is a Gyaoppi-based cat, going by the menu photographs that you posted of it. As I said there, though, I have no idea what the name is - I hope that someone knows this one.

The group of dogs in the bottom-right corner of the first photograph are, I believe, the Japanese (the first three) and Western (the last two) versions of the same virtual pet - the Micro Pet Puppy, which was sold in the UK by Bluebird Toys. These are listed on Tamenagerie here, under the US name of "Pocket Puppy".

My apologies again for another large photograph, but again I felt that it was worth preserving. It came from this eBay auction.

The kennel with a pink roof is a Petogotchi Puppy.

The white UFO-shaped virtual pet is a "My Doggy", which is a Nano Puppy clone. "My Galaxy Pet" is also a Nano Puppy clone.

The black, brick-wall/stone-like virtual pet in the middle of the first picture recently came up on eBay listed as "Whale & Dino 2 in 1". Tamenagerie doesn't have a photograph of it, but did mention it here, with a link to a now-gone video about it.

I think that "Tee-Tee Kitty" is an MGA cat, but I don't know this for sure.

The "Lovely Bear" appears to be a differently-named version of Bo Bear/Hunny Bear.

And, last of all, the one with a ribbon printed on its shell, which is labelled as "Teddy Bear", is a Nano-clone bear! It's listed on Tamenagerie here.

That's all that I can name, and all that I have the time for, for now. Again, I second what TamaMum said about trawling through Tamenagerie, and I'll add that it's probably also worth exploring The Tamagotchi Ocean, Gotchi Garden, and the Info section at VPets.org.

I'm not gonna be of really any help, but HOLY COW that's a cool collection. O_O

Thanks for sharing it, Porg! I didn't realize the Vpet boom back in the day was THAT expansive! (Hey! You have a Rancor as well! Sweet!)

It was so expansive that even the virtual pets that are listed on sites like Tamenagerie only scratch the surface!

As far as I can tell, there's quite a bit that hasn't been recorded (and this even applies to more recent cheap and counterfeit virtual pets), and even in cases where things have been recorded, the information is sometimes sparse - that's part of why I enjoy writing about my non-Bandai virtual pets so much, in fact.

If Porg can get her collection up and running again, it's going to be even more of a marvel to behold.

TamaMum - Thank you so much for the kind words and compliments! I’ve always loved these little critters and I can’t express how happy I am to have found a community that shares the same interest.

Thank you ever so much for the link! I am aware of the site, but I have never gone through it properly outside of what was linked to me and the odd few pages I have clicked on myself (I am a scatter brain at the best of times, I will admit). I’m definitely going to take the time to take a proper look this weekend. Thank you again! :)

Penguin-keeper - Thank you again for the kind words!

Thank you for the proper name on that one, I think what I might do, when I can sit down properly, is update the post with each one that has been identified. Then I can keep track of things better! I’m desperate to get this one running again, fingers crossed I can sort the screen out.

Thank you so, so, so much for identifying all of those also! Ah! You are a fantastic help and I really do appreciate all of your posts. I did suspect the Micro-Puppy, I will admit, as I did see a listing a while ago. I had my doubts, mind you, as I saw someone calling them Pound Puppies. The shell did not look the same as the one they were mentioning, but the sprites did. So! I figured it was best to leave them unidentified- thank you for clearing it up for me! :) I might also add that these ones were the ones I was talking about on my ‘Introduction’ post- the ‘dog simulator’. I absolutely adore these particular pets.

Thank you again so much for all of the naming! You are an absolute star! It feels so great to be able to put names to shells!

Hoky - Thank you so much for the compliments! :D Yeah, they were quite big back in the day- I wish they were now also. :( My friends/family knew I was obsessed with them and used to buy me them for my Birthday/Christmas. I also used to save up any pocket money I had to try and get new ones too. I was known as the ‘TamaGirl’ in school LOL.

I love the Rancor! I did have an R2-D2 too, but I cannot find him. :( There are a couple missing from my collection, to be honest. I really have no idea where they are, though, as I thought I had kept them all together. :( Losing R2-D2 stings quite a bit, as I am a Star Wars fanatic. I wanted to take him with me to conventions where I dress as Leia. I feel it would be the perfect addition to my costume!

Hey Porg! I've got a small update for you.

Thanks to this Yahoo! Auctions Japan listing, I now know that the Japanese name of the Micro Pet Puppy/Pocket Puppy is "Puppy Care".

Here's another big image so that this information is preserved.

The first one is called Magic Egg.
so much memories! you have a astonishing collection!

I have a lot of these pets myself.

The ones shaped like apostrophes are called Cyber Pals. The ones with all the chicks around it was called Cute Chicken (by FuTech). Hitorriko is the purple one in the top right. You have a red 8 in 1 "mini pet". My one is blue. Although you have a blue heart variant. I think the ones with the dogs around them are puppy cares but i never owned one so I cannot be sure on that. Your transparent orange dinosaur has caught my attention a lot... Id love to see it working.
