Is it possible to run a Osutchi without a Mesutchi (or vice versa), or will the generation never be able to advance?

I'm not even sure, I THINK you can run it but it will never advance, it will probably just die?

I'm assuming that the Mesutchi and Osutchi, being vintages, have a preprogrammed lifespan and thus will eventually depart if a new generation never occurs. The Tamagotchi Wiki answers your question on generations:

The TMP (Tamagotchi Mating Power) Icon is located as the 8th icon, and appears as a smiling face wearing a crown. It tells which TMP rank the character is in and what generation it has grown to. When two characters of the same TMP breed, the resulting babies will be of the next TMP. If two characters of different TMP breed, the babies will have the TMP of the parent with the lowest TMP.
Therefore breeding needs to occur to go up to the next rank and make new characters available. Looking at the growth chart available on the same website, the first two TMP ranks have the most characters and options start to decline the higher it goes. Interestingly, the last rank makes the oldie evolution available if it is still unmarried by age 13.

Running either the Osutchi or Mesutchi without its counterpart was something I have been planning to do, as I liked the idea of treating it like a regular vintage - which nobody seems to do - and it has enough character options at the beginning to keep it interesting. Also, buying two tamas at once can get expensive and the MesuOsu is more often sold individually than in pairs. It also was a bit of an excuse to do a little collecting as they made quite a few shell designs of those versions.

Thanks for the tips! I've been thinking of getting an Osutchi after seeing a couple at a reasonable price- I haven't seen any Mesutchis that I'm interested in yet. I think I'll get one and see how far I can get without his counterpart.
