Hey, everyone!

I've always wondered if it would be possible to create your own connection Tamagotchi! Like somehow creating your own sprites and importing them into the Tamagotchi or something along those lines. Does anyone know of anything along these lines or have any tips? I've played around with the circuit boards and I've even managed to swap a V2 circuit board with a V4.5 circuit board just for fun, but I want to actually create my own somehow. I'd love to start a discussion with everyones' thoughts on this and some input on how to go about doing this. I think customizable Tama's could be a new thing! :)

I don't know of any reverse-engineering of official hardware, but I know that a "make a virtual pet" electronics kit existed at some point. I'm pretty sure that it was simpler than a Connection, though.

There's an old article about it here: https://www.pubnub.com/blog/interview-petduino-creator-cute-electronic-pet-can-build/

There was also this, from last year...

... But this seems to have been more of a DIY project than a kit that you can buy.

I don't know of any currently-available kits for this sort of thing, unfortunately.

I know that this might be outside of the scope of what you're looking for here, but with projects like these at least the groundwork has already been laid, so it might be easier to create something of this nature than to reverse-engineer a closed system.

Natalie Silvanovich has done some great work reverse engineering Tamagotchis, but I think that's just about as close as anyone has gotten with regards to the western models. You can see her stuff here:

Japanese models tend to be a lot more advanced and some feature downloadable content so in that sense you could create and download your own data to customise your Tamagotchi. An example of how this has been used is Mr Blinky's English patch for the Tamagotchi P's. Mr Blinky has done some other really cool stuff too, including an arduino based Tamagotchi by the looks of it. Check out their stuff here:
