Not usually, but just check to see if their hunger/happy meters have any full hearts (one or more). If they do have hearts and the tama is calling for no apparent reason, you may discipline it. If all of the hearts are empty and it calls, it may also beg. In this case, you should obviously feed it and not discipline it.
