Turn the sound off. Also, when it's alseep, change to the clock screen, as it uses less pixels and therefore (supposedly) will not use as much power.
Batteries are cheap, though, so I wouldn't worry about it too much...Just be sure to buy "quality" batteries, such as duracell, as they last longer.
