whats wrong with my tamagotchi?

I just recieved a present from my other tamagotchi and all of a sudden a big X appeared and it's not going away..any ideas of what it might be??

As others have said, the battery is dead. Just replace it, press button B, select "Download," (NOT reset) and it will be back to normal!
