When Mametchi bows, or Kuchipatchi does the flower thing, etc. is this a cue to praise them, or is it just another cute thing to look at? I guess this question could be extended to cover toothbrushing and bathing too *shrug*

Maybe I'm thinking too much..

 
If you push any button when they are doing a special animation, including coming "up close," the animation will stop. So technicaly there's no way to praise it as it's doing any special animation. It won't raise the training bar if you try to do so.

The only times you need to praise are when it has its back to you or when it's crying.

i think the programmers just wanted to make the new ones diff than the old ones. cause the old ones just walked around, no special animations.

 
Yes, true....but Mesu/Osu had some animations...like when they got fat....but not many...infact...not many al all
