Im not sure if this is old but when you reset your tamagotchi. When you are changing the time if it ends with an even number you'll get a boy if it ends with an odd number you'll get a girl.

 
i have heard all sorts of theiros like that eg:

press the a or b button

press button when machmakers book is open

ect ect ect...

but this one sounds reasonable and it has been posted more than once claming it works

so just maby it dose work...

someone needs to have about 8 tamas and test all the theries

i trie this tip, but it was opposite for my tamas. odd i got a boy, even i got a girl.... it may just be a coincedence?

 
how to get a boy or a girl. you get too choose! if the matchmakers book is closed and you press the button you get a girl and if its open you get a boy. it worked for me! ^_^

 
If I want a specific gender I just reset it until I get it. . . unless it is a 2G or up

 
Sorry but all of those types of cheats have been proven false. It is by random.
