One of my friends name Brittany in my class keeps calling my tamagotchi a Gigapet and I don't know what a Gigapet is? So is a tamagotchi like a Gigapet? I keep telling her that its a tamagotchi, but she keeps calling it a Gigapet.

A Gigapet is like a knock-off of a Tamagotchi. Simular to the Nano Pals too. They have the same basic consept where a virtual life creature lives inside a LCD screen, and you use buttons to look after it. So yes, it's like a Tamagotchi, however it is very different at the same time.

It's not a knock off of the tamagotchi, its just a different virtual pet. The giga pet is MUCH different than the tama.

The methods of taking care of the creature is very different. Giga pets use a number system to display their health and happiness, and actually get sicker if you OVER take care of it. That and normally they only last 14 days when a tama could last 20+ days (years).

Giga pets aren't knock offs, they just got their own thing. Only common ground is they're a virtual pet too.

Yeah now see, those crappy ones you find on there are also kown as imitations. They may look like a special type but aren't. Now I won't completely knock these either. Cheapo ones like imitations can be not bad at all...but if you don't want one off of ebay, you better know people who could tell you about fake ones.
