it keeps flshing black and white i know the battery isn't dead cos i know what the sign is

when it goes with no tamagotchi then it goes black again and keeps repeating it!

 
Your tamagotchi might be damaged or you might have had that tamagotchi for quite a long time and it isnt working as good. that is what happened to my Version 1 after about 2 years. ^_^
