Press the reset button on the back with a pencil tip and start again.

Some people have said that you may be able to save it by choosing download instead of reset and 'saving' your tama at the point just before it died, but I haven't tried it- it's worth a try.

Even if it doesn't work you can press the reset button again to hatch a new egg.

 
I thought you just press a and c together because thats what you normally do.

Yes, you are right, that's what the instructions say to do.

But I thought I'd mention that some people have said they used the reset/download option and managed to 'save' their tama and therefore save their generations/items etc, which I think is worth a try. ( I'm not really an expert at killing tama's - all mine are managing to survive, and no-one else had replied when I posted.)
