Okay... so my tamas grew as the same character... Mametchi... so they still have the FOUR smiley faces on both and then when I connected them... BAM! Four hearts... What's going on?

but I think that's hard to get . + = Glitch love!Once I connected with my friend, present, I gave him a heart. We started being friends with two hearts! Every good present raised us up a smiley face, so when we had 3 smiley faces, we accidentaly played a game, and my friend won. 4 smiley faces for us! Then when I got on Gen. 2 We had 1 smiley face!!!
Somehow, I don't recall either of us being happy, but We caught on when we had two smiley faces.
