This is what I discovered:
Put two tamagotchi on the connecting screen, and put them in a connecting position. Now press B button for the tamagotchi that you want to recieve the present. You don't have to press anything for the other one, it will connect automatically.
Either they will play a game, and the 'receiver' will win (Unless the 'giver' has at least three more discipline points than the reciever.) or the giver will come and give you a present.
However, the affection will only increase for the reciver. The giver will feel the same way if you don't switch the roles of reciving and giving. Games effect both their relationships.
This is how I get certain presents. Like when I want my baby to get a ball or something like that.
By the way, I'm not sure if it works for V2, or V3. Please inform me if it does!
