She has just informed me that there is a new version of tamagotchi that can be voice-activated, and she wants one. But she doesn't know what they're called, or where you get them, or anything. So she has been bugging me incessantly, because she knows I'm an internet geek who will find her anything (*rolls eyes*).

So, googling found nothing; wikipedia, while it found nothing directly, led me here. So I figured I'd ask the people most likely to know - other tamagotchi fans. Anyone know about these? She says they look just like the logo of the forum.

Thanks in advance! I look forward to her not bugging me anymore.

As an aside... I was certainly a tamagotchi fan myself, as a kid. But those days are long over - I had pretty much the first series of tamagotchi ever to make it to the US  . Now I'm older, and have moved on to various more sophisticated forms of addictiveness.

There is no voice activated tamagotchi... the one at the top of the forum page is a keitai tamagotchi made in Japan that connects to cell phones, but there is no voice activation (and if there was, it would be in Japanese for that one). I'm afraid she is mistaken.

On a side note, I had a tama back in high school and then revisited the hobby more recently. I have known various folks with different addictions like that... is that a MUDD? I used to date a video game junkie <shudders> (yes it was that bad, imagine a 20 year old acting like a 1o year old).... thankfully my current sweetheart is much more moderate in his gaming, more like me. For the record, I am almost 23, and a gemologist and jewelry designer about to move to California to complete my next jeweler's degree.

I'v never heard of a voice activated Tamagotchi. I don't know if that's true.

Thanks! I will tell my sister that. Out of idle curiousity, what functions exactly are carried out via connection to a cell phone (I know my sister will ask me that).

And believe me, despite being close to 21, I would have no problem telling people I liked Tamagotchis, if I did. I just got bored with them after a while; they're so simple. Why play with something with no brain, when you could be playing with a Norn instead? (Though I got bored with that game after a while too, but for entirely different reasons).

And no, Nethack is just a standard Roguelike, so singleplayer. I've heard discussion of a multiplayer Angband (the other very well-known Roguelike), but I don't think it's particularly playable. And I'm honestly obsessed with too many things to be solely a gamer, so I don't think I'd bug you that much if we met, or at least not on that account. Though likely on others  .

I can certainly imagine the 20 year old gamers acting like 10 year olds, though - I have several friends just like your description.

Well, you cannot connect with a moblie phone unless it is in Japan and the moblie is Japonise. I have 2 of these tamagotchi (The Tamagotchi Keitai), but i have yet connected with a phone, becuase i live in austraila. Someone else might of, but i cirtanly have not.
