Okay, for Christmas I got a tank that has a little house, rocks and a mini pond in it. My mom says that she is gunna buy me 2 tadpoles. On the box in came in it says "Frog Planet" so I know the tank is fine but I have some questions about owning tadpoles and frogs.

1. What do you feed the tadpoles?

2.Do frogs have to eat live food?

3. How can I tell when my frogs are sick?

4. How can I keep my frogs as healthy as posible? (it would be terrible to see them die  )

THX.

thats koolestnesses!

i dunno, but i'm sure there are COUNTLESS books and internets sites on 'em!

good luck!

it came with a booklet and it was not helpful! like it didn't really answer one of my questions what do tadpoles eat?it just said pellets. what kind of pellets?!!!!

Hi! I have a couple of frogs - which I brought up from tadpoles, so I should be able to help.

For the tadpoles - go to any petshop, and ask for frozen red mosquito larvae and you will be given a kind of "ice-cube shaped packet" (generally) which'll be frozen. The mosquito larvae are dead, but when you put them in the water, the tadpoles will eventually eat it.

You know when the tadpoles become frogs because they have four legs, and they start walking up the sides of the tank/start sitting up on stones (depends whether it is a tree frog or not).

Yes, frogs MUST eat live food, because they detect the food when it moves. B) I suggest you buy some crickets for them (small ones to start with), and just plock them in. It is really fun to watch your frogs eat. B)

Your frogs won't get ill if you change their water every week AT LEAST, and you feed them well. If they do get ill, they will probably behave in a different way to normal, and their legs turn red I heard, but mine haven't got ill thankfully. If you care for them really well - they will croak!

Enjoy your frogs! :)

Cool. ^_^ In google images they look like tree frogs - so you may find them walking up the sides of the tank - but at night they like to come down - so don't forget to put a nice big rock/sponge/plastic plants (real ones end up rotting and smelling :D )/whatever so they can sit on it at night, and so the food can stand somewhere. :p

they climb up the wall?!!? will they jump out of their tank?

They can jump if you don't keep them covered. Once they become frogs(likely after several months), a very good housing option is a 10 gallon aquarium with a mesh lid. Leopard frogs cannot climb glass, but they are powerful jumpers. I like to put a couple of socks underneath one side of the aquarium so that it is tilted up a little on one end. I keep some water pooled in the low end so they can swim and stay moist, but then they can climb out of the water on the higher half to eat and such. Line the bottom of the aquarium with Astroturf so they have some footing to walk on.

Tadpoles turn into frogs rather slowly. They first sprout back legs, and their tail begins to get smaller. Then, they start to grow front legs and their body becomes less round and more frog-shaped. You will notice it, believe me. ^_^

Tadpoles eat little pellets of food. In the wild, they eat underwater plant leaves and similar things with their mouths which are designed for scraping food up. Algae/spirulina pellets and wafers that sink to the bottom are best for them to eat, as well as the bloodworm pellets that spiffy mentioned. When they become frogs, they will eat live crickets which you can buy at the petstore.

If you need more information, go to www.petcentral.com and look up "Leopard Frog care". That will help you out as well. Enjoy your new frogs! :D
