In my schools drama class to get a part you dont audition. The teacher draws names from a hat!!!!!!!!!!!!! so If someone wants to be a part but arnt cut out for it all the have to do is get lucky and say the word! Some people (like me and my BFF) Studied the lines of the parts we wanted perfeced them and did the solo we wanted perfectly and never got a chance to at least show our hard work and ditermination! Im just saying that auditons would be much better? What do you think? ;)

omg that is so babyish, i mean cmon pickin names outta hat! auditions r MUCH better that's wat i do. but on the other hand maybe their just doin it to giv all the people with no skills a chance. so i'd hav to say that it is stupid and fair and unfair at the same time

Yeah I guess it is true but for the not so good people they should give them special help :)

i agree with u they should seperate those people (if they couldn't get a part becuz of their skills they should just move on in their lives(no offense to people who had that problem))

yeah cause its not fair to the more expirienced people either or the people who have been workin their butts off.

wow, that stinks.

is this elementry school or middle school?

just wondering.

agree with both sides, gives everyone a chance, BUT people who are really good at it should get the part- thats how life works. whoever can do the best job.

6th grade.

I would expect much more from the teachers. <.< What kind of class are they running? Drawing names out of a hat is so elementary, not to mention it's unfair to those who are actually good! If I were, I'd complain. Or you can just sit back and wait for the names to be picked. Your choice.

Don't expect me to give you sympathy like everyone else.

Now, teachers are sometimes fair and sometimes not fair. Now Mr. Teach could choose a better way of choosing drama-peope,but, if he doesn't draw names out of a hat, some REALLY sensitive kids might think he was being racist or abusing his power. You should alert the principal, or some other drama teacher.

Best Luck,

Ice

You should give sympathy.

Why? Its their opinion. They can do what they please and say what they please.

And I don't think students would think the teacher was being racist. Being racist would imply that the teacher is judging students on their skin colour or ethnic background. I think what was meant to be said was that the teacher would pick favourites in the class over others or abuse their higher rank in the classroom environment. I've had one teacher do that. Hence why I loathed grade 7.

Yes, that does sound a little bit unfair.

But in more 'important' plays/shows, you usually have to do an audition and the best audition/s get the part. In my school, the people who wanted a part had to audition, then the rest of the class would have to vote over who was the best in they're opinions. :furawatchi:

Wow that is weird. My school auditions for parts. Maybe in your school they just want everyone to have the same chance at the lead. I personaly don't like the way my school does it either, they do it by talet but then they only focus on the leads.

I have been through sooo many auditions. I have learned from them all. What my drama teacher did in my last childrens theatre class was a have everybody audition for every single part. Well, parts ment for the right gender. While at times it was humiliating, it was fun. Auditions are part of learning. They help you build confidence and experience. Also, the teacher can see how the actor does with certain parts and characters and keep that in mind for another play. That's what happened with my last play. I got a great part. It was one of the best exeriences of my life.

What the teacher could have done was had those who wanted to audition for the bigger roles do so, and then anyone else would be drawn from a hat for the minor roles. I really think you should say something, but then again it is only middle school. Once you get to high school you'll really be able to show off your talent. Good luck!
