Tomy tamagotchi? Tamagotchis are Bandai! Sorry but I think it is a fake :p If the packaging reads tamogotchi the it is... as for dying in sleep on pause, it hasn't happened to me! In fact they shouldn't die on pause...

don't put your tama on pause for a long time or its battarie will waste fast :p :(

 
Oh... now I think it was a glitch or died just before or after pause, but only just, to look like a pause death. :(
