As many of you know, TamaCHAT has been down for quite a while now. Chat was closed because of some database problems and performance issues it was causing for the rest of TamaTalk. Things are settling down now (finally) after some time and we are ready for TamaCHAT to return. YAY!
There is one change though.... TamaCHAT used to be a weekends only thing but went to all week over the summer. I'm not comfortable with that anymore because of the problems it caused for the database (and quite honestly for the moderators who had to deal with lots of other problems in chat). So what is changing? TamaCHAT will be open Monday through Thursday only. Why? The weekends are our busiest time and a time when the database is slammed with the forums alone. Adding in chat to this would be risky and I am not wanting to put all the forums at risk. A busy database makes for slow page loads in the forums and weird chat behavior as well. I figure it works out best for everyone if both chat and the forums are working smoothly and the only way to do that is to make it happen at a time when the site is normally not as busy... Which is Monday through Thursday.
I realize this may be something of a stinker for some who came to really enjoy chatting here. Please keep in mind four days is better than none at all.
We have to find a balance that works for everything here. Hopefully this will be it. I also plan on doing some work so there may be some small interruptions the first week or two.
