I agree. It's really frustrating when sellers think it's fine to omit a detail as important as that, but I feel like sellers who do that aren't very reputable so I try to avoid buying from them in the first place. Other than that, I definitely look for a mention of a tamagotchi's operating...

It really depends. Sometimes the batteries leak their acid, sometimes they won't. To be safe, it's recommended that you take the batteries out to prevent the risk of them damaging your tama in the first place.
