Many people recommend the P's in terms of a modern tamagotchi. I don't have one myself, but I asked the same question you did and pretty much everyone listed P. As for any of the versions, it depends on whether you want simplicity or gameplay. V3 or v5 for simplicity, v4 or v6 for gameplay...

I've heard the Tamagotchi P's are really good, though I don't own one myself. If you're looking for an older model, I recommend a v4 or v6. Angelgotchi is supposedly really good too.

I believe you have a V3 (lef) and a V4 (right). Most versions are determinable by the sensor-like thing that isn't actually the sensor on the upper left. V3's have a little nub, V4's have a ball thing, V4.5's have a star, V5's and V5.5's have a house thing.

I still have an old V4, but it's buttons are pretty bad at this point. They still work, but you have to press them hard, which sucks for one of the more involved Tamagotchis. Can you get them fairly cheap, I feel like a lot of people seem to be getting them lately.
