No, downloading does nothing to the batteries life.

Not quite the case ; downloading only restores your character to where it was before a battery runs out etc. If your Tamagotchi dies, and you choose to download it will download back to when your Tamagotchi has died ;)

That is true. If your tamagotchi is alive, it will download and be alive but, if your tama was dead when your battery died, it will just download back to the dead screen
