Popcorn on the food groups pyramid I'd assume once butter is added is an oil. But on it's own, I think it would be a vegetable.

Actually on the food pyramid I was given by a diabetic nurse, it's also a grain product since it has carbs, unlike most veggies which don't have any carbs or calories.

Yeah, I've heard that it's mostly a starch. I would believe that popcorn would be a starch too, in that case. It is healthy if you don't coat it in toppings.
