I used to run into this all the time in tamagotchi searches... I wanna say it's name is gizmo or similar. It lights up and reminds me of a cat, egg... no tail unless you count the cord. It lights up in blue/green hues. I think it could connect to a computer and do more color hues and maybe interacted with what you did on the computer. Maybe it was out during connection series of tamas, like4-4.5...Not fully sure.

This cat-like, glowing critter that you found looks like one of the Spöka night lights from Ikea. I don't think these lights have any Tamagotchi-related functions, but they're still pretty cute! ^_^

They come in two different styles: tall with blue ears (like the one in the photo), and short with orange ears.

Here's a picture of both of the Spöka lights:
