Tamagotchi "more suitable for girls"?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who know about the classic Tamagotchis, you'll notice that they're not as pink and sparkly and stuff as the current ones. Bandai originally designed Tamagotchi for both genders, then said that Tamagotchi was "more suitable for girls" as a "practice for nurturing children" and designed Digimon for boys. Although I'm a female, I am a dog so I don't really know aboot this, but I think that both of these pets are perfectly fine for both genders, and I'm kind of mad at Nintendo for assuming that only boys play Pokémon (of course the professors asking your gender is pretty weird). Also, don't you think that having something that regularly dies or leaves isn't a very good "practice for nurturing children"?

Sorry that this is so long.

Boys can like pink and sparkly stuff too...it fits the cuteness of the characters, I guess. And Tamagotchi IS the type of thing you'd see for girls on the toy market, as it's a virtual pet involving feeding/bathing/etc. My Little Pony is super girly too but I don't see bronies complaining about it being too girly, so I wish Tamagotchi fans would be the same.

There are a lot of girly designs from the earlier versions. I think it's that the later ones are girly in a different way and there's only girlier designs.

But even some girls don't want/like the girly shells.

I think Tamagotchi should be for both genders. What is so "girly" about wanting to take care of a pet? Guys have pets too. That is one thing I like about the older Tamagotchi. There was so many different shell designs for both genders.

I've posted about this before. I mean, the target demographic for Tamagotchi definitely seems to be females, but that doesn't mean guys can't enjoy them, too. I agree, they should make more gender neutral designs, but the "girly" ones don't really bother me too much.

The problem with that is when I entered the world of Tamagotchi it was for both genders. It has transferred over to girly pink stuff. It did not use to be that way. My Little Pony was always targeted for girls, it did not switch over to girly content. There is a big difference between a gender neutral product that goes to a female product, compared to a female based product staying a female based product.

I'm a guy. I don't really mind the femininity surrounding tamagotchi, in fact I enjoy some of it. It is a girly thing, there's no going around it. I stopped caring because people will always find a way to tease you. There's some kids at my school who gets made fun of for being rich and some who get teased for things they can't control or didn't do. And if there isn't a little flaw they can use against you, they'll make one up. So I say keep making girly tamas.

I'm a guy and I really don't like the tama friends because of this (even though the friends is a really fun tama) I miss the older ones that were more gender neutral

The beauty of the Japanese tamas, these days, is the fact that the faceplates are removable/customizable. They sell gender neutral colors like yellow, blue, and green and you can customize the faceplate to be as manly as you want. I think that's pretty rad.

I'm a gal and while I like girly things, I do try to look more refined in my daily aesthetic and with things like tamas being carried around on one's person for long stretches of time, I like it to match my aesthetic(which is more simplistic and involved lots of black because of how it's harder to stain and it looks very classic). The fact that they pretty much don't make tamas in darker colors any more makes me pretty sad.

Bandai has definitely marketed the Tamagotchi more for girls, but there's nothing wrong with guys liking it :)

While I agree that Tamagotchi should be marketed for all genders, the majority of collectors I've seen have been women. I think that's why the franchise has transitioned to ideas/concepts that are easily marketable to a female audience. Despite this I think Bandai has done a decent attempt of keeping some gender neutral elements in the franchise, but it's obvious who their main demographic is. Why some people think boys shouldn't play games about nurturing or taking care of animals is beyond me.

That's kind of a problem if you don't live in Japan. I'm so jealous - :(

Hello! So I just found out that they're rereleasing the original Digimon V-Pet, and looking at how I got into Tamagotchi (The rerelease of the P1/P2 last year) I'm really excited and im getting it ASAP!
But what about you guys? Do you have any plans to get it? And if so, will this be your first Digimon V-Pet? Because it'll be my first!

(Also sorry to mods if this is in the wrong section, I couldnt find a Digimon section so I thought it'd fit under Tamagotchi Ancestors )

      Hi there!
So I received my Eevee Tamagotchi two days ago and so far I'm pretty happy with it. It's pretty easy to satisfy and not needy at all. But there are two things I can't seem to figure out:
      1. Sometimes Eevee beeps at me for no reason at all. Even if it is completely happy. There's no way to dicipline Eevee for beeping without any reason, so I wonder: Why does Eevee do that? Am I missing something?
      2. Has anyone figured out yet how to evolve Eevee into an Espeon/Umbreon?
      Thanks in advance! :)

The moment has finally come! Bandai Japan has just officially announced the Eevee Tamagotchi, which is that fabulous collaboration that was leaked a few weeks back. Tamagotchi and Pokemon fans around the world can rejoice because this one is good.
Just as you’ve expected, the details previously provided are pretty much on par with the official details. There will be two versions, ‘Love Eevee’ and ‘Colorful Friends’ which feature different shell designs, but will both have the same content.
Each Eevee will hatch from an egg and depending on your care you can get a variety of Eevee’s! Each variation of Eevee is a bit different and all based upon care, there are a total of 8 variations of Eevee; they’re all super adorable! There also appears to be three mystery variations that Bandai has not yet released, but you can see that in the graphic above.
You’ll be raising Eevee the whole time, which includes feeding, playing games, and enjoying Eeevee’s close up expressions right on your Tamagotchi screen! How adorable?
The Eeeve Tamagotchi’s will be released on January 26th 2019, the MSRP is ¥2300 which is roughly $20 USD. The targeted age group for this device is 6+ due to its simplicity. It’s very important to note that this device is very different from the traditional Tamagotchi as it has similar functionality to the Tamagotchi Nano, and the newer Gudetama Tamagotchi.
Bandai will be releasing a video really soon with additional information and functionality. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we receive additional information. How excited are you for this Eevee Tamagotchi?!

It appears that a Pokemon cross over with Tamagotchi was recently leaked! (See source at Serebii and Siliconera here: http://www.siliconera.com/2018/11/06/a-special-eevee-and-tamagotchi-collaboration-digital-pet-appears-to-be-in-the-works/ , https://serebii.net/news/2018/06-November-2018.shtml ) This hasn't been announced officially as of yet, so lets hope for more news.

This is like a dream come true. I can't even describe the excitement. I also have no idea when the release date will fall, but hopefully we'll see more of this soon.

A report by Serebii.net today suggests that an officially-licensed Pokemon Eevee Tamagotchi Nano might be on the way!

      To quote;

      This is the image that the report mentions;

I like Eevee, so if this turns out to be true, then I absolutely want this Tamagotchi.

Hey, I can't tell if this is a real Dinkie Dino or not? The seller SAYS they were never released and they were given as arcade prizes but like- it's got the digimon like- rectangle casing? Not even the normal Dinkie casing?

Here it is and an image for the sake of, if it gets taken down or whatever so others can see it in the future I guess (I see a lot of posts where ppl have linked eBay listings and theyre taken down so I can't tell if what I'm looking at is a fake or not)

The seller also has a variety of other colors too. Is it- real? I don't... I mean the PACKAGING looks legit but I don't, know much when it comes to this stuff so...

Anyone know if it's legit and what it is compared to a normal Dinkie Dino?
