For the characters for which you need to connect to 6 different tamagotchis, can you use the same one and simply reset it each time? Or is there no way around it and it really has to be 6 others? I don't see how anyone could afford to buy 6 iDLs...

Yup, doing this should work. Each time you reset it, it'll count as a different Tamagotchi.
