Battery Corrosion in Tamagotchi Friends

I just got a Tamagotchi Friends that is used and it has had battery corrosion in it, but left off without batteries in it for a few years. I have been able to get it on and play it but every day there is a small amount of new corrosion in the batteries and I need to clean it out with vinegar I'm order to make it work again (temporarily). Should I put it in rice to get the moisture out? Not sure how to fix the corrosion that comes back for more than a day... :c
