Maybe you have too much items, if you're buying food, just feed some of it to your tama. Or you can trash some of your other items, just go to the wrapping screen and then press A when it asks you to wrap and then press B to trash it.

If you're trying to buy food, your treat list is probably full. I have 23 treats, and my I can't buy any more treats. If you're trying to buy items, there should be no problem. I have 32 items, and I can still buy more if I want.
