I kind of wondered that myself, just what could you be doing that would wear down the buttons? 
The only button problem I've ever had was when one of my birds decided it would be fun to chew one off. ^_^
Around here, we have to flip things upside down that have those fun soft buttons.
Hey, did any one notice that Power Paz had hard buttons? That's really great! You can't beat that.
