As far as I could remember, It was a fake Tamagotchi Connection. It had four buttons and it was the 49 in 1.

first tama i ever played was my brother's v4.5, but the first one i ever owned myself was a music star. honestly though looking back, a music star really isn't really a beginner-friendly tamagotchi. at the time, i had a lot of trouble with it and could almost never raise it past toddler stage LMAO

Hello everyone, I am new here ^^ As you can guess by my handle I'm a big fan of Kuchipatchi ^^
Anyway, I remember my first tama well. I had a doctor's appointment on my birthday and I got it as a gift from my parents. I was maybe 4th or 5th grade I forget. I opened it and played with it in the doctor's office. I am sure the other patients were annoyed with the obnoxious beeping noises! But I had so much fun. I remember I loved Nyorochi on the box art but I never got one for a long time because I took too good care of my Tama. It's still one of my favorite Tamas.
Shortly after we went on a trip to visit our grandmother in Florida. My family didn't understand why I wanted to sit in the house and care for a digital egg creature instead of go to the beach. Though I have never liked the beach anyway.
I remember I bought a special journal to use just for keeping track of my Tama care. I would write when I cared for it and when it evolved. I even wrote the score of games lol. Sadly I don't have the notebook anymore but that would be cute to look at.
I still have the Tamagotchi! My father recently found it among some old things of mine and asked if I wanted to keep it or trash it. I asked him to keep it and he delivered it to me recently. I even still have the box!
I used to play Tamagotchi Classic app on my phone (though my current phone doesn't support it
) and play the Game Boy game now and then. So I'm very happy to have my original Tama back. It inspired me to get into collecting them so I found this forum. I recently ordered a Digimon and a Japanese P1 Tamagotchi (as well as some batteries!) so I can try to get Oyajichi. I never managed to get Bill before either.

Ah yes, how could I forget? My very first tama was a yellow v2 with purple stars back in the second grade. (Around 2010-ish? I know, I know, I was very late to the party haha)
I had seen a girl at a camp playing with one, and I was really curious about this interesting little piece of tech. Instantly sent a text message to my mother begging for one. She remembered her sister having many of (uh, fake) ones back in the 90s so she thought it could be nice to get me one. I was surprised she actually did find me one, since I didn't get my will most of the time as a kid, hah. She managed to find one off ebay, in very nice condition, for REALLY cheap compared to the prices these bad boys have these days, jeeeeez they are pricey!
I carried it literally everywhere with me. To school, to every sleepover, to floorball games, to the store, to cruises, restaurants, bathroom, everywhere. For literal years, up until junior high school where I would leave it to mom for to babysit since I was ashamed of still playing with one. It's paint has worn off quite a lot, it has tons of scratches on the screen, but after all these years it still works! Despite me losing it in snow for hours because I was a clumsy kiddo So many good memories.

My tamagotchi is lost somewhere now but it's probably in the house 
. It was a really bright pink and had a colored screen and I was addicted to it! I loved the clock. But everything was in Japanese so I couldn't read it. I had to remember what is where and where is what. It's better than than my demon slayer tamagotchi ill tell you that. (o3o)

I'm not sure how it turned out this way, but I have two "first" tamas as I got them so close in time. Its the magenta hibiscus V2 and the light blue with flowers V3 Connections. I managed to remember my best friend since fist grade's first Tama and it was the one with cherries on it! Even though it was a V3 I don't remember the gameplay being too different, and I even think our tamas married. 
I also got a mini that was black covered in flames because that was my childhood aesthetic. I.e. Lisa Frank lunch box and supplies next to a hand-drawn dragon -- complete with claws, bloody teeth, spikes, and flames probably sitting on my desk.

My first Tama was the G2 Green Camo. Everyone at school had a Tamagotchi (they eventually were banned) which is how I found out about them.
They were difficult to find and I was so excited to finally see them in a store! But I was very disappointed to see that only the "Army one" was available. I still ended up with it and I remember making my Mother take it to work with her to look after it (due to the school ban).
At some point it was lost. I have since bought the same shell again (twice! one to keep boxed up) off of Ebay.

Oh man SAME. Mom got really good at killing Tamagotchis. Eventually I learned how to pause them and kept them in a tote bag on my teacher's desk to play with during breaks, so mom's killing streak came to an end.
My first Tama was a white with black details P1 that I took everywhere and played literally to death - the C button ended up stuck inside the shell and we had to exchange it for a new one. Only...Toys R Us didn't have the same color in stock, so I very reluctantly traded it for a yellow tiger-stripe P2. It's grown on me over the years
(Is it just me or was the first wave of P2 shell designs more miss than hit? I remember seeing the camo shells and thinking the tiger stripes were the least hideous option.)
Our first ever tama was a Toy story one that had 3 characters, a dog, a bird, and an alien with 3 eyes. It kept resetting because the screws on the back weren't closing the lid tightly enough and we were too stupid to figure out this could easily be fixed. Plus, the intro sequence lasted forever, the tama would pick a character completely at random and it took 1 or 2 solid minutes of introductory animations and music that you couldn't skip to finally be able to play. I have terrible memories of it lol.
Eventually my father brought me a P2 from France and it was all mine. I loved it instantly (in fact, I already knew Bandai Tamas were better because my brother brought a P1 at some point which was lended to him by a friend of his). I grew crazy attached to it even though looking back from now the P1s and P2s are pretty boring. I had it for more than a year, then my father confiscated it from me. I found out he just had it hidden in one of his vests so I sneakily took it back and kept it on mute. When he found out about it he made me destroy it and throw it out the window of the car (miles away from home). Yeah I went through DABDA. I've never found a Bandai tama to easily purchase ever since.

LOL my brother's 4.5 also had a similar button issue. He got it from a friend so I don't remember how used it was before that, but I remember after a while those buttons got worn DOWN. You had to press super hard to get the press to register, all three buttons were nearly inside the tama itself bc of how used they were. Funny thing is that I didn't even realize how bad the buttons were until I got my own music star, since I bought that one new in the package LMAO
yeah! and I don't know if I'm constructing this memory, but I think I even remember a button completely snapping out and me trying to use a piece of chewed paper in its place. I have only a really vague memory of doing this.

I've had a P1 with a torn button pass through my hands at some point, it's not completely impossible! Sorry to hear you've been plagued with button troubles on top of the trauma of having to throw your precious Tama out a car window! I hope Bandai works on expanding their distribution network farther so you can get your hands on Tamas more easily.
It isn't necessarily Bandai's fault. Here in Algeria we are able to buy 3DS's, Switches, PS4s and what not. Some stores even do sell original games but most people will just hack their consoles and play downloaded games. The problem is toy stores just do not sell virtual pets, and I simply don't understand why. Back in 1999 when they were all the rage, some stores would sell Dinkie Dinos, which was better than nothing. But since around 2000 nobody would import them anymore because nobody would buy them and the snake eats its tail. Yesterday I asked a storekeeper if they would bring some to buy. I was amazed to find out that he did know about them, and he said if he found some he might bring a few. He still advised me to just purchase some from Amazon or Ebay though... which I might end up doing! (I've been craving for any version of the Connections for quite some time now).

It seems we all go through the same events with our tamas! I also did lose my tama in the sand at the beach and found it by pure luck a few minutes later.
I'm glad you were able to find yours!
I have no idea what happened to mine. I remember having it and then not having it. Maybe the dog ate it. Who knows.

I lost my first virtual pet, a Nano Kitty, in the chest pocket of my overalls...and found it several months later drowned after a few trips in the washing machine

Oof, but at least you could replace the guts and still have the original shell. Mine fell off the chain when I was hopping off the boat and onto the dock. I did buy a replacement a number of years ago, so I have it's spiritual successor, at least.
I did have one vpet years before that first tamagotchi; I had to have been in 2nd or 3rd grade. A nano puppy! I'm not interested in running one, but it'd be neat to have one of nostalgia's sake.

Just like a real kitty, Nano Kitty didn't like the water.I also had a Nano Kitty. It met the same fate as the Camo Tama, meaning I have no idea what happened to it.
