hi there! it's pretty obvious, but i'm a bit new to the tamagotchi world; and my first tamagotchi was a fairy ON! however, i'm considering getting a tamagotchi PIX to expand my collection. i've heard there's a lot of similarities between the ON and PIX; i'm not sure if it's true, but for those who have a PIX, is it worth it in comparison to an ON? if so, what are some things i should know before i buy one? thank you~! :mimitci:

You have to feed, play with, and clean up after both, but the differences end there. The ON has you exploring Tamagotchi Planet and breeding to create a one-of-a-kind Tamagotchi. You also get to raise/breed pets for your Tamagotchi. There's Bluetooth and app integration, though the app is shutting down in August of this year.

The Pix is much closer to a classic release, where the focus is on spending time with the Tamagotchi you're raising. The camera allows "cooking" (free food!) and customization of items that your Tamagotchi can play with or use to decorate their room.

Both versions have a variety of mini-games to play and are in full color, so you'll have plenty of fun with either model.

I have a quiz that can help you figure out which one suits you best. Maybe it will help you decide?

thank you so much for the clarification! i definitely need to do some research on the tamagotchi PIX before i go for it, however, but it does seem very tempting by what you've described! in terms of breeding, though; am i able to get multiple tamagotchis still, like in the ON? do the genetics still transfer there? i also read that your tamagotchi eventually leaves...? that seems so sad!

also, i ended up taking your quiz; it was very well written and detail oriented!! and surprisingly enough, i got the tamagotchi PIX! while i still got a ton of questions about it, it really helped me decide what i want from a tamagotchi! thanks so much for such an insightful answer!

My pleasure! I'm glad you found the advice (and the quiz) helpful :)

To answer your questions, there's no breeding in the Pix, nor is their gene mixing like in the ON. Once your Tamagotchi fulfills its time on earth, it will go back to Tamagotchi Planet and send you a one of 3 eggs to raise. Not gonna lie, the entire sequence is a bit of a tear-jerker.

That said, if you get your Tamagotchi to a high enough friendship level you can have it stick around forever!

There is rumor of a new Pix, the Pix Party, supposedly set to come out this summer if Walmart's site is to be believed...it might be worth holding off to see what new features it has in store.

oh my... i used to cry as a kid when i had to get rid of my chao in sonic adventure 2, i'm not sure if i'll be able to handle that 😭😭 but!! if there's a way to get them to stay forever, i'll most likely give it a shot! but hey, at least i can get vanilla tamas in the PIX!

oh, a new PIX? i hope they fix the battery life on it! thank you so much for the advice! i'll most likely wait to buy either the new one or the old one once my current tamagotchi line is finished, but i really appreciate your input!

Ugggh the battery life...!
The longest charge I've gotten out of my Eneloop Pros is about a week, and that was playing with the Tama very, VERY minimally. I hope they fix it too!!
