New Giga Pet StarCat/CompuKitty combo

Ran a search and couldn't find any posts about this! I happened to visit the Giga Pets site recently (for like the 2nd time ever) on the day they opened preorders for a new Giga Pet, just hours after they began taking preorders. IT WAS A SIGN.

I'm a bit excited for this one! It's two pets in one: the classic CompuKitty, which I never had, and StarCat, who is supposed to be easier to take care of. This is the description of StarCat from their site:
"This magical cat is truly out of this world and full of personally [they mean personality] which can be seen through its wide range of fun and funny animations! If you keep your StarCat happy and healthy they will answer questions about your questions about the future and read the stars! Once a day StarCat will look up to the stars and reveal a symbol. That symbol represents a fortune which you can learn more about from the booklet which is included inside the package."

Is this the first appearance of StarCat? I mean did it exist as an individual Giga Pet before this combo? I haven't been able to find anything on it. Anyway, despite the fact that the shell is a bit glittery-looking for my taste, this sounds pretty cool. For $17.99, I placed the preorder pretty much without hesitation!

StarCat was one of the winners of a contest that was run back when the Giga Pets AR line was released - the release has been held up by quite a while, so its good to see that it's finally on the way!

I'm still holding out for the penguin that they teased several years ago, myself (though I did pick up the Giga Pets AR Unicorn at one point), but I'm really glad that they're still continuing with this. :smile2:

Yeah! :biggrin: I think that they also teased a lion and some others, too, but honestly at this point I'm not sure that it'll ever happen - it might have just been concept-art that was ultimately ditched, for all I know.

But, that said, it's taken years for StarCat to make it to market, so maybe anything could still happen! :smile2:
 
My StarCat, Orion, is asleep. Bought this Giga Pet at the VA Beach Cracker Barrel. It is asleep now, but there is a screen that is completely frozen: a screen with a black background and three white Z's on it. Is this a feature, or a bug?

I can't say I've ever tried to rouse them from a deep sleep, but usually my StarCat wakes up at about 8/9 AM or so. The black screen with Zs on it is the sleeping screen, so that's not unusual, but if it stays on that and won't let you wake it up later in the day I'd suspect it's stuck. You could either reset it entirely, or try taking the batteries out and putting them in real quick. The newer Gigapets aren't meant to hold your pet long term, but they can survive a few seconds for a swap.
