Does anyone else play MTG? I had my shiny new Eva Tama with me and checked on it when one of my opponents asked "is that a Tamagotchi?" When I said it was my Evangelion his eyes about popped out with excitement so I let him play with it a little between his turns

But it got me wondering, do any of y'all play MTG? What formats? What factions/themes?

I personally run a sliver commander agro deck(because of course I do 😂) to the point where it got me the nicknames at one of the shops as "The Sliver Lady" and "The Sliver Queen."
My commander is The First Sliver and I don't actually run the queen at all(I think she looks very ugly) and I also don't run a combo deck. It can pop off, sure, but the idea of relying on one or two combos without any variety is very... *Yawn* to me. That said, don't knock it if it works, but I do have a difficult time getting into other decks without as much variety as the Slivers.

I used to play back in the first few sets, when I was younger. I don't remember too much about it XD I liked green and white cards. It's super crazy now though.
If you still have your old cards they might be worth something-for example, if you have an alpha llanowar elves, you have a small pile of money!

That said, green gets soooo much love! You might really enjoy it if you come back to it. (。・//ε//・。)

Sadly I got rid of all my cards long ago. I had some beta L. Elves for sure. What a shame XD I'd be too lazy to sell them though, I'd probably just take the whole box to a card shop and bulk sell it and let them worry about it.

Sadly shops will sometimes rip people off. That said, darn, could've been sitting on a pile of coins, please tell me you didn't have a Black lotus!
Weirdly enough, the MTG used card market is basically like the stock market. I think it's bad for the format, with certain cards being worth so much and pricing people out of certain deck builds.
Are there any card games you do like playing these days? I briefly got into digimon, had some fun at my LGS until they decided to run weekly tournaments. Playing a game on it's designated night when it is also tournament night, while not partaking in said tournament, isn't very fun. I wasn't good enough at the game to justify spending $5-$10/week on entry fees/booster packs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don’t really like witchcraft (no offense)
In my experience, when people butt in with a "no offense" online, they're actually trying to cause offense. If witchcraft, magic, or the card game called Magic: The Gathering aren't your jam, why even click this thread titled "Magic The Gathering"?
Thankfully for you, this is the gaming section on the site and NOT a space for religion. 👍

MTG is functionally unattached from real life paganism and witchcraft. It's more akin to a fantasy novel but played with cards.

I definitely didn't have a Black Lotus. And yeah I know the shops will rip you off sometimes but it would just be easier for me than trying to sell everything individually.

I kinda swore off card games after I graduated high school -- they're just too much of a money-sink for me. But I used to play MtG, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Digimon (the old one), and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I had cards from other games too but those were the ones I actively played.

True true!
And woah that's quite a list of TCGs!!!
And I feel you on the moneysink. I currently only run one deck, and may eventually run another, but I prefer tuning this one up. But when friends have expressed an interest in learning to play my advice to them is simply "Don't do it. It's a money pit." 🙈
I've seen many people at my local shops come in with 15-20 decks in toolboxes and such. And then they say things like "well I could have won if I had [insert card/s here] but they're too expensive." I find the salt a little amusing but then I have to remind myself that for many, deck building is the part they find fun.
But yeah, as with anything, for some people, they develop an addiction to the game and it really negatively impacts their finances.🥺
I wouldn't want any of my friends to go down that path, and thankfully my bestie who is just getting into it is also a minimalist, so I think she'll be fine with a very small collection of 1-3 decks.

I actually still have all my Sailor Moon cards and still play the game using Desktop Simulator online with my friend sometimes. It's a pretty fun game. It plays similarly to Pokemon but you play heroes and villains and fight the opponent's villains with your heroes. Kinda hard to explain, but very interesting.

I need to tell my friend Liz about that game, she loves sailor moon, we might just take a dive into that rabbit hole! :)

I expect a thread about that one too, you guys! I'm not one for card-games, but the Sailor Moon one does sound very interesting. Also, y'know, any excuse to break out the classic theme-song, right?
