We both dived into the pool.
We paddled and paddled in the freezing water to rescue our pets.
We kept on paddling, hoping that our pets, and even ourselves, would make it out, alive.
We paddled closer and closer.
Then Shuffle gave up…and he went under.
“SHUFFLE!” I screamed.
I dived under. I couldn’t see a thing. There was too much chlorine.
I swam up with eyes burning. I couldn’t see anything.
I felt around to see if I could find any of my pets.
Then I heard voices.
IT WAS THE COUNSELORS!
They were coming! They’d see Mary and me! Then they’d kick us out for sure and tell our parents and we’d be in huge trouble!
I closed my eyes, and I felt fur. I had found Lara.
Then, everything was bright. Very bright.
Was I dead? No. I could still feel Lara.
This could only mean one thing.
The counselors found us…
