I think it's to symbolise that you can 'connect' to tamatown.com through passwords. It may also be to help people reconise the diffrence between each version.

It's to show it's a v3 and it's just for decoration.

 
Well, I chose other because they can all do to show they're a v3, to collect passwords from Tamatown and the link to the internet. The v2s and v1s don't have the antenna; they they aren't linked to the internet!

 
Actually it is because they are the western version of the Japanese Keitai tamagotchi. Keitai is a type of telephone in Japan and like the way we use TamaTown with our V3s, the Keitai tamagotchi could connect with the Keitai telephones in Japan...
