Yes, I remember when I was 4 my grandmother took me into K-mart I think, and bought me my first tamagotchi; A Camo Green V2, I loved the thing! Until it went through the washing machine... I then got a red V3!

A long time ago, I made a new egg on my V3, but oddly enough it hatched into another egg! This tamagotchi had never been debugged before; I didn't even know what de-bugging was back then! When the character jumped out of happiness, a crack would appear on the egg and you are able to see a male...

I thought the tamagotchi generated the login code, and then tamatown will process it into a certain charecter etc.
