I bought a japanese tama from 1996 and it came with some old batteries in it. They hadn’t leaked very much and the contacts were clean so all seemed well. put some new batteries in (energizer 357’s because that seems to matter in some way?). It starts right up and asks for the time. The only problem is that the screen goes blank after a couple seconds of not doing anything. it comes back when you press a button and it’s still going while the screen is blank. you can see it when you tilt it up. From the sounds of it, it seems like it thinks the batteries are low or almost dead and is conserving power, but that doesn’t make much sense. I bought another one with it and it works just fine with these batteries.
