I tried connecting with my friends, but ti didn't work. It just stayed on the standby screen and then just went back to normall. Am I doing something wrong?

I have a six year old V3 tama, and I bought my friend a tama connection. Whenever I try to connect, I choose the option V.3, and they say standby, but they don't connect! I'm not sure I'm doing it right, but I dunno. Any help? x.x
