"How did it feel being airborne?" Rose, my twin sister, asked. "Were you scared?"
I paused for about five minuites and finally replied, "No. Actually, it felt good."
---------------------------------------------
"It felt good?!" Rose asked, amazed.
"Well," I admitted. "I was scared when I was up there, but as I was being pulled back to gravity, I actually felt like I wanted to do it again."
"And nearly kill yourself?!" Rose was astonished.
I was distracted, however. "Hey, Rose. Did you you hear about that bike competition?"
"Yeah. But it's full of hills and you could fall and hurt yourself." she replied, giving me a queer look. "Why?"
"Don't you think this hill would be a good practice route?" I asked, ideas swarming around my head.
"Oh, no!" Rose sighed. "Mom would worry so much."
"Who says she has to know, goody-goody two shoes?" I teased, tempting her to give me good, hard slap. I knew she'd run and tell Mom any second.
"Well... I saw how those idiots were acting after Mom came." she replied. "I didn't like that. I won't tell."
I was shocked. "Y-you mean it?"
"Yeah. Now let's get home before Mom comes running again. It's nine o'clock."
---------------------------------------------
At school I could hardly concentrate. I kept on taking the note about the bike contest in and out of my desk. I couldn't think of anything else!
But the worst part was that the contest would take place in the woods. Not just that, but in late autumn! I would need to lay out twigs and rocks and leaves for me to practice on. I was sure I would win.
I sighed and looked up front to the music teacher. He was strange. He played with puppets and pretended THEY were teaching us!
"And to play 'Roku Kawaii Mimitchis' on your recorder," said the music teacher, holding a pink bunny puppet. "you put your fingers on A, C, D, A, C, D, B, B, E, A!"
I quickly picked up my recorder and pressed the holes, unfortunately creating a horrid squeeling noise that disrupted the tune.
"Thorn! Why did you do that?" the music teacher shouted at me.
"W-Well," I stammered. "I-I-I was th-thinking of something d-different. I d-didn't tr-tr-tr-try."
"Well, if it's so amusing, let the whole class know!" he jeered. That old Oijitchi wasn't making it any easier on me, especially when I really didn't try.
"U-uh," I stuttered. "th-the bike contest."
"What about it? Tell us. Was it worth daydreaming about?"
"Well, Friday night I rolled down a big hill on my bike, and my bike got caught in the air. After that, I've been thinking about entering the bike contest."
"Oh," he replied, with a stern look on his face. "if that will keep you from working hard, I have to send a note to your Mom telling you not to enter." He walked to his desk and actually wrote the note and gave it to me!
"Sir! This is just plain unfair! PLEASE!"
"One more word and you won't be allowed to ride your bike."
I groaned and waited for the bell to ring. Any second now. 10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2...
RRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG! RRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG!
I slowly walked out of the door. It was bad enough having to keep Mom from knowing I was entering, but now I'd HAVE to tell her.
Dumb music. Dumb teacher!
I closed the last door and walked outside. I kicked rocks and stampeded the tumbling leaves. I kicked up dirt. I was angry with everything right now.
As I slowly made my way home, I had a brilliant idea. I'd just throw the paper out! I unzipped my backpack quickly and took out the note. I crunched it up into a little ball and threw it away! I killed two birds with one stone!
I grew happier inside and decided to run home, as fast as a Kuchipatchi could run!
Rose greeted me at the door, grinning as if she had just won 1,000,000 GotchiPoints from the Lottery!
"I told Mom, I couldn't keep the secret!" she laughed.
"WHAT?! Rose! What did she say?" I asked, in a spazz attack.
"She said yes," Rose said. "as long as it doesn't keep you from doing your work in school. I really thought she'd say no! Mabye if you prove it to her this time, you'll have no trouble at all next time."
"Yeah, Mom says so..." I replied thoughtfully. "but my music teacher doesn't."
"Oh?"
"Yeah. I was day dreaming in music class, and I accidentaly made a squealing noise. Anyways... go get my helmet. I'm gonna practice, I'm going to race anyways!"
"I have a bad feeling about this." Rose sighed and shook her head. "I won't tell.. again..."
I paused for about five minuites and finally replied, "No. Actually, it felt good."
