How do you think the devices work?

I believe theyre real myself, but Ive always been wondering how its possible to have the same charas on different devices since theres only one of each in canon

Maybe each device is connected to a different Tama dimension?

Im sorry, Im not all too great at explaining things, I hope this makes sense

Tamagotchis live both on Earth and on Tamagotchi Planet. But Tamagotchis on Earth are kind of a different species.

On Earth, there can be lots of the same characters and they can have different families, etc. They live inside the devices and need our care, or else they really die

The locations on the virtual pets e.g. the iD L and P's are artificial replicas of locations on the real Tamagotchi Planet.

On Tamagotchi Planet, there is one of each character and everything that happens in the anime really happens on Tamagotchi Planet.
