Yeah, well that's just your opinion I guess. They look cool to me - they are a fashion accessory!
And I also wouldn't say they were 'bits of string in your hair' - that gives the wrong impression. They're coloured thread (and sometimes beads/charms too) that you wrap around a small section of your hair; it gives a really pretty effect!-bratztroxg
