If you think your version 2 tamagotchi is faulty then just to be sure it has to have something like this wrong with it:.......

'when you click 'meal'and keep pushing 'A' does your tamagotchi continuesly have 100's of the same food that you didnt even buy?'

'Have you woken up in the moring from your tamagotchi continuesly beeping as if you were pressing the 'C' button???'

'Did the matchmaker come at age 12'

'Did the matchmaker come at the age of 8 and bring you a tamagotchi of the same gender to mary?'

IF YOUR STILL READING YOU TAMAGOTCHI IS FAULTY -all of the above happened to me ^^^^^^^

Most V2 characters can be either gender. (For example: on V2, Mametchi can be male or female.)

It wasn't until the V4 that specific genders were assigned to each character.

If you listen up closely to your tamagotchi, you'll hear a faint beeping over and over again, I like to think of it as a heartbeat. This is normal and nothing to worry about. Is this what you were talking about?
