The speed in which your tama grows is dependent on how well you take care of it, really. If you play games with it a lot, and make it go to school often, keep it happy and don't let it get diseased, it grows faster than if you ignore it for long stretches at a time. I've seen tamas that don't grow up until age 5 or 6, depending on how badly they were neglected.
