I found my first tama from '97

I hate to sound like a total tool, but what version is my old tama from?

I got it in 97, and what kind of batteries do they take? I HOPE I can get it working again and all it'll need is new batteries, I'd LOVE to use this.

Check it out, I used to baby this guy soo much, I'm surprised it got so banged up, I made this little foil snake for him to sleep in.

It looks like it's been well used! It's a classic 96-97 version, looks like to me. Second Generation. One of the original US tamagotchi's. Lucky you! Wish I had had the brains to hang on to my originals. See here: https://www.tamenagerie.com/gen2.html. I'm guessing yours is the Second generation, because generation 1 had a checkerboard background. Generation 2 had the wavy background.

Batteries should be LR44's.
