No, you can not name your character on the actual device, but you can name them in your head or on paper, and you enter your username when the device first starts up.

The only foods that you have an unlimited supply of are the built in foods, the rice and the Sakura drops (meal and snack). All other foods you either buy at the restaurant, or if you grow them from seeds they'll appear in your fridge until you eat them.
