Info on Original 1997 tamagotchi

I need some information on the 1997 Original Tamagotchi because me, my friend (cmura2) and my sister (she's going to get an account soon...) are making a tamagotchi magazine for tamagotchi lovers. I was wandering if it was called the "1997 Original Tamagotchi" or the "1996 Original Tamagotchi" You can call it the P1 can't you? I read somewhere that it was also called a P1...

Now I know the 1996 Original tama and 1997 versions different...but i did't get as much info as I wanted. Anyone know a lot about them?
