The adult can stay with the baby for as long as you wish - as long as you keep your tama paused around midnight or you keep the time away from midnight; if the time is midnight, and the adult is with the baby, the adult will gradually leave the baby.

The adult cannot stay with the baby while the baby is growing up.

Cotton is definitely right. But your baby doesn't want to be with its parent, it wants you to take care of it so it can grow!
