I know this is a stupid question but what does the love potion do? I am scared to use it on my tama

Normally for two Tamagotchi characters to mate they have to be in love. It takes time to develop such a relationship. To speed up this process, you can use the love potion. If your Tamagotchi character is an adult, and uses the love potion, it will fall in love with whichever Tamagotchi it connects to, within the following few minutes. If you want them to be able to mate right way, it's best if both Tamagotchis which are connecting use the love potion.

Don't be scared! It doesn't do anything to your tama, but it will get the girl/boy tama to fall in love with yours. That's all! :kuribotchi:
But,yes, exactly what binary said. But if you use it, and you don't have a tama to connect with, well, your tama is just going to dance around the screen with hearts in the air. Basically, it was a bust to use. So BE CAUTIOUS! I know from experience.....
